Immigration

An estimated 12 million people are living in the United States illegally. Unsecured borders are compromising our national security. Scott Kleeb believes we must respect the rule of law and will advocate for a three-pronged approach to end illegal immigration: (1) securing our borders, (2) cracking down on businesses that hire illegal immigrants, and (3) penalizing those who break the law.

SECURE OUR BORDERS

Scott Kleeb believes that ending illegal immigration begins with securing our borders. In the Senate, Scott will work with Republicans and Democrats to:

  • Secure funding to build a southwest border fence.
  • Pass the Secure America through Verification and Enforcement (SAVE) Act. This bill would increase the number of border patrol agents and investigative personnel, and increase the use of surveillance equipment at the border and implement a systematic surveillance plan.
  • Enhance connectivity between various government agencies and law enforcement operations.

HOLD CORPORATIONS ACCOUNTABLE

In 2000, 417 businesses were fined for hiring illegal immigrants. In 2004, only three businesses were fined. That’s a 99 percent decrease in enforcement. Not only is it wrong to allow bad corporate citizens who break our laws off the hook, it cripples our national security efforts and hurts hard-working taxpayers. Scott Kleeb believes that businesses must be held accountable for the role they play in today’s illegal immigration problem. That’s why Scott will:

  • Crack down on businesses that circumvent the law by hiring undocumented workers.
  • Require employers to verify that their workers are authorized to work in the U.S.

NO AMNESTY FOR LAWBREAKERS

Scott Kleeb believes that those who break the law should not be given amnesty, but should instead be held accountable. In the Senate, Scott will pursue bipartisan efforts to:

  • Impose steep fines on lawbreakers.
  • Require that those who came to this country illegally pay back taxes owed.
  • Require that immigrants enroll in English-language programs.
  • Move lawbreakers to the back of the citizenship line, behind those who came here legally.
